Knowing What You Can Afford

When we Queer people spend time with you, we often monitor your behavior and gauge how much of our cultural identity you can afford in any given moment.

And when you come up short, we're left with a pragmatic choice: risk our safety by pressing forward with our unique flavors of being and expression, or risk our health and wellbeing by shrinking to meet your ignorance, ineptitudes, lack of awareness, or delicate sensibilities.

Because this is what it means to live under straight supremacy: we potentially pay a price each time we're not who you might want us to be.
