Part of our work is to make "polite" bigotry socially unacceptable. We must risk discomfort and decorum to confront prejudice in the moment. We must put friendships on the line, and family on notice. We must hold each other accountable, and not look the other way. Because the stakes are just too high. And we learned long ago that "Silence = Death."
